Types of Mulberry Paper Flowers

Mulberry paper flowers are made from mulberry trees. That is a rather obvious statement but what is this paper and what makes it such a great paper for making flowers is the real question.

This paper comes from the mulberry tree and is also known as "rice paper." The mulberry tree is native to Africa, Europe, America, and Asia of which most of the 16 species comes from. The mulberry tree needs tropical climates to grow. The tree also produces a fruit, mulberries. This species of tree that is used for making paper is called the Broussonetia more commonly called the kozo.

The paper is made from the fibers of the bark. The tree has three layers of bark, which can all be made into paper. However the innermost layer, which is white is the fiber the majority of the mulberry paper is made from. It is made by hand after it is harvested and dried overnight. The bark is then striped of any knots or creases with a flat knife.

The bark is then cooked with a soda ash and water for a few hours. The paper is then rinsed and inspected for any missed knots or rough spots. The next step in making mulberry paper is to rinse the paper; this produces a natural pure white color. The final step in making the paper is a 30-minute beating of the bark with a tool that looks like a bat. Then the fibers can be separated and made into paper. All of this is done by hand.

Now that you know where and how this paper is created and have an appreciation for all the hard work that goes into this paper we can look at the different types of flowers and ways to decorate with Mulberry paper.

Bridal bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, centerpieces and even decorations such as; wedding bells and hearts can be easily made with mulberry paper. You can use mulberry paper to make all the flowers for your wedding and all the decorations!

You can also order flowers made from this type of paper at an affordable price. The ones I have seen are absolutely gorgeous! You can buy these flowers already made into the bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, cake toppers, and centerpieces or you can just buy the separate flowers and make your own creations for your wedding day.

You can also use mulberry paper and handmade mulberry paper flowers for your home. Make beautiful centerpieces to brighten your home and give it a welcoming touch. Christmas decorations made from this paper will last for years to come. Why not try your hand at making some ornaments for your tree such as: angels, snowflakes, snowmen and snowballs.

Mulberry paper also makes a great wrapping paper. It is sturdy and the "no peeking" rule will be enforced by this paper. You can also make or buy flowers to decorate the package and make beautiful ribbons to match.

These paper flowers are the perfect flowers for any occasion. They are beautiful, made from heavy duty paper and have a special appeal due to the time, energy and pride put into the making of the paper and the flowers!
